Our Fall Harvest

On Friday we finished an art project that we had been working on for three weeks. In order to make our beautiful fall harvest pictures we first had to make a lot of painted paper. Next, we experimented with mixing our own colours and made the background papers. Finally, on Friday we got to create our baskets and cut out all sorts of fall fruits and vegetables to fill them with.

We love how they turned out!

This great art lesson came from one of our favourite art blogs, Deep Space Sparkle.

Have you harvested any fall fruits and vegetables from your garden?

Do you have a favourite fall fruit or vegetable?

  1. Mrs Watson’s class back at doing art. I very much like your baskets of fruit. All those warm golden autumn tones, they are the ones Mrs E loves best. I’ve just been squeezing fresh oranges and they looked just a little brighter after seeing your art. How much time do you spend on art each week in school?

  3. What beautiful, brightly coloured and cheerful pieces of artwork! I can see how much work has gone into creating your baskets of fruit and vegetables, and I think it is very clever the way you have thought about the shape and colour of the fruit and veg, and arranged them so carefully in your harvest baskets. Harvest is a beautiful time of year, we had a harvest assembly last week in our school and Class 2 sang a song about Fairtrade bananas! I look forward to seeing more of your wonderful artwork on your blog.

    • Dear Mrs M,
Thank you so much for visiting our blog and for leaving us such a nice comment. We’re really glad that you liked our fruit and vegetable baskets. Your harvest assembly sounds really interesting. Did each class do something different? We’d love to hear the song about Fairtrade bananas.

  4. Our class watched your Fall Harvest video. The students thought your colour mixing was very well done. They were wondering if you had tracers for your fruits and vegetables because they thought they were so well formed. When we looked closely we saw you were creating your own shapes. Well done! Many of them look so real we could almost eat them.

    • Dear Ms. B and Class,
Thank you so much for watching our video and for leaving us a comment. We didn’t use any tracers for this project, but we helped each other remember the shape for different fruits and vegetables. Some of us found making pears a little tricky. That would sure be neat if we could eat our harvests!

  5. Dear Mrs. Watson and 2/3’s,

Your Fall Harvest project was very creative. We saw lots of different colors. We like the colors you mixed. Your baskets were amazing! The color really jumped out to us. Many of us have harvested fruits and vegetables from our garden. We have gathered apples, potatoes, carrots, and corn. Since we both are harvesting now, we think that both of our classes must be in the same season. What do you think?

    • Dear Mrs. Moore and the Techie Kids,
A lot of the students in our class have harvested fruits and vegetables from their gardens too. Some of the students in our class have very big, beautiful gardens. Mrs. Watson is very jealous! We think you are right about us both being in the same season. Are the eaves changing colour there now? We don’t have a lot of showy trees unfortunately.

    • I love the beautiful colors! It’s interesting to see how each student’s picture is just a little bit different. We harvested some fall vegetables such as carrots, kale, cabbage, broccoli, chard, squash and pumpkins. Unfortunately we left the little pumpkins on the back porch and the chickens ate them. We had to get new ones for Hallowe’en!
