Math Games For Home

Today your child will be bringing home a set of dominoes to play with you. We hope that you will enjoy playing some of the Box Cars and One-Eyed Jacks games that we play at school.

This week’s math game is called Domino Battle. Here is a great video made by Suzanne Weider, a 1st Grade teacher at Seth Paine Elementary in Lake Zurich, Illinois, explaining how to play:

Variations:
1. Subtraction Battle- Players draw a domino and subtract the pips (dots). The player with the least difference captures the domino.

2. Multiplication Battle- Players draw a domino and multiply the pips. The player with the greatest product captures the dominoes.

3. Place Value Battle- Players draw a domino and make a number in place value (tens and ones). The video below shows a few of us playing Place Value Battle.
