We Love Skype!

Today we Skyped with Ms. Reid’s Grade 3 class from Kernersville, North Carolina. We found their town on Google Earth and were amazed by how big it was compared to our little town. Here is a picture

Caleb's Creek Elementary

We got to find out a little about each other and are looking forward to another call soon! Here are some of the cool things we learned from them:

*They have an alligator as their school animal
* They have 5 traffic lights in their town
*800 people go to their school
*Silly Bandz are the hottest thing there right now (We looked them up on the internet)
*They have longer school days and we have a longer lunch
*They don’t have any class animals

  1. Hi Mrs W and 1,2,3
You are right, Australia does have some scary native animals.
Many of our snakes are poisonous. Around the Harston area, we get tiger and Eastern brown snakes. Both are very dangerous. The Eastern brown has the second most potent venom of all land snakes in the world. Luckily, the eastern brown has small fangs so often it only injects a small amount of venom when it bites or doesn’t inject anything at all. However, if you get bitten by a snake you must go to hospital straight away to be safe.
At hospital, the doctors will take a sample from the bite area to test what sort of snake bite it is. Then they know which antivenom to give you. All of our hospitals keep the major snake antivenom.
When we see a snake at school, we go away from it. Then we tell the teachers and ring our bell to bring everyone inside. If the snake is close to us, we stand very still and let it go away. then we go inside and tell the teacher.
Most people in Australia who get bitten by snakes, do so why trying to kill the snake.

  3. Dear Skye,

We have Skyped with one other class before. Our first call was with a class in a nearby town. This call was with a class on the other side of North America in the USA.

This week at school we are going to try and make a video for your class. We really loved the one your class made! We have never made a video for the internet before.

Have a great week at school,
