On Thursday, the students in grades 2-7 traveled to the Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre in Port Hardy. We took the first ferry to Port McNeill and then got on a school bus to head to the hatchery. We had an absolutely amazing day learning all about salmon. Erin taught the students about the life cycle of the salmon and about how we can help them.
We toured the hatchery outside and then went inside and explored the interpretive gallery. The students had a wonderful time! We hope you enjoy the slide show of our day!

What a great day out; I’m sure my class would have really enjoyed it too! Were you learning about wild salmon or do you have salmon farms like the ones which we have in Shetland?
Mrs. Breyley,
The salmon farming topic is very controversial here in British Columbia. The salmon farms here are in pens in the ocean and many believe these farms are responsible for declining wild salmon populations. The hatchery we visited is trying to help the wild salmon. Are these the type of farms you have too?
