Colourwheel Scarecrows

The students have been having a great time painting in art each week and have learned a lot about colour. They are now able to mix their own colours from the three primary colours and can also make shades and tints by adding black or white. Today they put all of their skills to use in making these fantastic scarecrows.

Your scarecrows certainly show that you have learned a lot in the last few weeks about the use of colour, lines, and tones and tints.
I really enjoyed seeing the process on your video, from the start of painting your scarecrows to the finished product on the walls.

Our art topic this term is called ‘Shades of Red’ and the B4 children will be having art with our new part-time teacher Miss Robinson. Art is one of B4s favourite times of the week too.

    • Dear Mrs. McKenzie and B4,

Thank you for watching our scarecrow video. We sure had a lot of fun painting them.

“Shades of Red” sounds like a great art theme. We can’t wait to see all the great art you will make this term.

      Art sure is fun!

  2. I love all the shades of orange and green you have managed to make; the scarecrows are great! In Britain most people call them scarecrows but in Shetland there is a dialect word for them which is boakies. James in P7 made one for us to keep the birds from our cereal bed.

    • Dear Mrs. Breyley,
We think boakies is a really cool name for scarecrows! What kinds f things do you grow in your cereal garden? We don’t have a garden at our school.

  3. Hello Mrs Watson and 2/3’s
I love your colourful scarecrows – particularly how you have made many shades of colour by mixing your paints. I can’t wait to show them to my Preps (5-6 year olds). They love Art too and enjoy seeing what other children around the world are doing. Visit our blog if you have time – some of our art work is on there.
    Have fun today.

    • Dear Mrs. Kennedy and Prep K,
Thanks so much for visiting our class blog. Art is one of our favourite things to do at school. We have been having a lot of fun painting and learning about colour. You have a great class blog! We can tell that your students really enjoy art too!

  4. Hi Mrs. Watson and 2/3’s!

Your blog certainly looks like you’ve gotten the year off to a great start! Thank you for sharing your lovely artwork with us! I can see how much hard work you all put in. You have really shown that you are able to mix colors effectively. I noticed that some of your paintings had a Post-Impressionistic style. Have you investigated any of Van Gogh’s paintings? I think you would enjoy it. 🙂

    Your Friend,
    Mrs. Moore
