The Science Fair

Today was a scientifically spectacular day!

We have been working very hard for the last several weeks to get ready for this year’s science fair. We brainstormed project ideas, chose a question, made a hypothesis, did research, planned out our materials and procedure, completed our experiments, recorded our observations, wrote our results, and thought about our conclusions. We also had to prepare all our information and draw or take pictures for our displays. We couldn’t wait for the big day!

Today, we were finally ready to set up all the projects in the gym. Everyone in grades k-3 did a project and even a couple of the intermediate students decided to do projects on their own. We loved talking to the judges about our projects and having our friends and families come and visit our projects after lunch. There were so many amazing projects!

You can take a closer look at our projects if you click on the videos below:

We would like to thank our parents and families for their help and support, Mr. Neilson for all his hard work to make the science fair happen, and all the judges for volunteering their time!

We can’t wait for next year!

    Wow, wow, wow!
I’m so impressed with your projects and your understanding of your topics. I haven’t watched all of the videos yet, but I’ll be coming back later to see the rest.

Sometimes for Pets Day our Year 6-8 students do science projects, but we’ve never done them with children K-3 age. Perhaps we will have to give it a go!

Was it hard choosing your topics for your projects?

    warm wishes

    • Dear Mrs. McKenzie,
Thank you so much for watching our videos and for leaving us such a wonderful comment. The science fair definitely was a lot of fun and we think that the younger students in your school would enjoy it too. \

We smiled when you mentioned Pets Day because we remember those posts and how much fun it looked. It would be great if the younger students could do science projects too.

It was very hard to choose our topics. There were so many different things that we were interested in. Most students had a list of 8-10 projects or questions that they were considering before they picked.

      Have a great weekend!

  2. Loved the Science Fair! Loved the projects – the young scientists were eager to engage the public and share their findings with clarity and intelligence! Being a nerd is COOL!!

If you google the name Angela Zhang you can find the story of young girl in Grade 11 who is designing a cure for cancer. She is a high school student doing research at Stanford!

So keep up the good work – you are never too young to learn anything!

Oh, and by the way, why are frogs so happy? Because they eat what bugs them!

    Happy learning!

I am very impressed with the quality of your science projects, as well as the diversity. Well done for talking so knowledgeably and clearly about your subjects! I was particularly interested in the fact that you were all working on different things – did you have time to work on them at home, or did you have extra help in the classroom to get yourselves ready for your Science Fair? It really does look interesting, I shall be sharing this with my teaching colleagues, it would be wonderful if we could do something similar!
