Hand Washing

We had a special guest visit our class today.  Tyler, who is our community paramedic, came to teach us all about hand washing.

Tyler taught us all about germs and how we can stay healthy.  He demonstrated what happens when we sneeze using glitter and a spray bottle.  Germs sure can travel a long distance!  He also showed us the proper technique to use when we was our hands.

Next we put some special “germ” cream on our hands and then went to try out our hand washing skills.  After we washed, Tyler used a special flashlight to show us the spots we missed.

We would like to thank Tyler for visiting our class. Here are some of the things we learned:

  • Sneeze in your sleeve or else it will spread. (Rylann)
  • When you cough, cover your mouth. (Cayden)
  • If you touch something that is dirty, after doing it wash your hands. (Teddy)
  • Germs can spread. (Cozy)
  • Eat very good vegetables and fruit. (Kip)
  • If you are eating something and it is dirty it will spread germs. (Sinead)
  • You rub the soap all over your hands, then you wash it off, and then you get a paper towel. (Acacia)
  • There are lots of places that germs can get to, that you miss when you are washing your hands. (Joselyn)
  • Wash your hands with soap and water. (Lina)
  • Sing the Happy Birthday song twice or once if you sing it slow. (Harmony)
  • Don’t touch somebody else’s food. (James)
  • Germs can spread easily if you don’t wash your hands properly. (Ayla)
  • If you are sick and you want to get better you can eat chicken noodle soup. (Ryder)
  • Germs can spread when you sneeze or cough. (Clara)

Mrs. Watson asked us to go home this weekend and teach someone in our house the hand washing technique we learned today.
